Rovers lead at the break thanks to Rudy Gestede’s 11th goal of the season. The Frenchman produced a trademark header to give Rovers the lead, whilst Robinson produced a fine save to deny Sordell from the penalty spot.

Rovers should have had a penalty themselves when Rhodes appeared to be taken out by Hamer, but, in spite of the fact that the Rovers striker required treatment from a physio, the officials felt that there hadn’t been sufficient contact. The away side must have felt aggrieved by the decision, but took the lead moments later when Gestede headed home King’s cross. It was the Frenchman’s 11th goal for Rovers, an amazing nine of which have been headers.

It was an important goal that keeps playoff hopes alive, but those hopes were temporarily dashed when Hanley gave away a penalty as the half drew to a close. Sordell took the spot kick, but Robinson guessed the right way and made a fine save low to his right.

Results are currently going Rovers’ way and they will have a chance, albeit slim, of making the playoffs on the final day if they hold onto the win.
